How do we know where are units are supposed to go w/out being penalized? I understand they have to stay within the same theater, but mine have been penalized for moving to far east, etc.. this is an outrage.

Divisions which are outside of Command Range at the START OF A TURN incur a lot of penalties.
Then we have supply....
Page 96. Once the supply consumption level drops below 100 as the unit will incur significant combat penalties.
At levels below 100 the unit will suffer combat penalties that increase in severity in proportion to the amount below the optimum 100 level. The
maximum possible penalty (at a supply consumption level of 0) is -75% (both attack points and hit points)
which, in effect, means the unit is fighting at 16 times worse than it normally would.

Hi Mantrain,
Moving too far east sounds like you've moved you units out of command range, as mentioned by Aurelian. You'll be hit by penalties if you exceed this.
Rule of thumb here is keep all subordinate units within 5 hexes of their HQ.
There's an option setting in the Preferences tab to visually highlight the command range whenever you click on an HQ
If a unit is receiving penalties for any reason and you're unsure why, ask it to 'Report Status!' (yellow button, bottom bar). They'll tell you what the problem is.
Other than that the Führer is quite happy for you to advance in an eastwards direction.
Cheers,
Cameron

thanks for clarifying. rather helpful. I just think for the motorized units they should be able to go further. I presume there are air drop /supply drop cards, but then how efficient was air dropping supplies in that theatre? Ju 82's only had so much cargo space.
Edit, I meant JU 52. was there a Ju 82 in WW2?

A hex is 30km across and the command limit is 5 hexes (150km.) In terms of WW2 radios and command systems, that's a generous enough range IMO. Move too far and your HQ will lose touch with your advancing units and then won't know where to direct the air dropped supplies anyway.

Even apart from supply problems, the desire by the panzer commanders (especially Hoth and Guderian) created extreme tension and animosity within the German command structure.
