Quibble about Rokossovsky

Probably not at the top of your list, but I see that you've got Rokossovsky listed as a "Tsarist" marshal.

Actually Rokossovsky is as "Soviet" as most of the other senior Soviet officers, in that he spent time in the ranks during WWI under the tsarist regime but did not become an officer until joining the Red Army.

While its not completely clear why he was thrown into prison and tortured for two years during the purges, the fact that he was Polish by birth presumably did not help...

Hi 76mm,

You're correct that he wasn't a Tsarist but there isn't a category for 'Polish Nobility who had new ideas on the use of armour and associated with the wrong people'.

He probably sits somewhere between Tsarist and New School but that's the only two viable choices.

New School, however, might be a better fit.

[edit] I checked and, nope, he's New School already. But that's only if you are playing with the Historical option. Otherwise his type is randomly determined each play through with a weighting towards being useless early in the campaign and more competent later on.

Cheers,
Cameron

Strange, I'm playing with historical, and he is definitely Tsarist--he was deployed when I freed a Tsarist officer from Lubyanka, and is labelled Tsarist on his tab or card or whatever.

Actually, now I've got two Rokossovskys--one commanding the Southern Front, and one in command of an army somewhere...

Hi,

Marshal Rokossovsky is a bit of a party animal it appears.

I'll have a word. Sober him up.

@76mm

Did you, with historical option ON, play the 'Release Tsarist' card to receive one of your Roko's?

Cheers,
Cameron

Yes, the front commander. The other two I've received as front commanders after playing a card were Shaposhnikov (certainly tsarist) and Vasilievsky (not completely clear cut).

Perhaps the main point is that it was hardly only tsarist generals who where imprisoned during the purges--instead of releasing a "tsarist" general it might be better to release a "competent" one, etc.

Hi,

This is proving difficult to isolate.

Would anyone who had a game with two Rokossovsky's in it be able to post a save game as an attachment here or PM it to me?

@76mm

The Marshals are all given a 'category'. Competent is either Tsarist or New School. Rokossovsky is New School and will now appear as such with the Historical Option ON.

Yep, 'Competent', or similar, might perhaps be a better way to describe the card.

Cheers,
Cameron

I'll see if I can figure out how to send; the Front commander is in the southern front, the army commander is in the 54th Army in the north. For what it is worth, it looks like the army commander has a picture of the wrong guy.

[EDIT] The file is too big (2,800 kb) to attach to post or pm. E-mail doesn't allow attachments. Other suggestions?

Hi 76mm,

Hold the file.

Rokossovsky is a Marshal who only appears in Front HQ's.

The guy in the Army HQ, what's his name? A screenshot would be useful here.

Is there any indication in Reports that the Army guy is Rokossovsky or is it only the likeness in the picture?

Cheers,
Cameron

What you need to do is to get a free file sharing account, upload the file to that account, and the post the link. It's pretty much the flip side of finding an image hosting site.

I use two free file sharing services for my mods, Box and Dropbox. Dropbox is the one everyone seems familiar with, but I find it messy, hard to use, and invasive.

Box, on the other hand, is much cleaner and easier to use. You don't install anything on your computer, it's free, and the reason that it's free is that they're trying to attract corporate clients and they figure their product is the best advertisement for their service (and it is).

To get a free box account go to Box.com and sign up. Just remember to make the links that you get when you upload to your account available for everyone to download or no on will be able to use it.

This is the service that I use for my mods, and I wish image hosting sites were as well designed (though Imgur is pretty good).

The Army commander's name is "K.K. Rokossovsky" (there was only one Rokossovksy), but his picture seems to belong to someone else. Below are screenshots showing the Front commander and army commander:

Hi 76mm,

Thanks for that. Figured it out.

The Regular Red Army formations have historical commanders but the conscript armies have a collection of junior Red Army commanders in charge.

K.K Rokossvky was the Commander of the 9th Mech Corp, 5th Army, AGS in June '41. Same guy who then rose to the rank of Marshal later in the War.

Easily fixed.

Cheers,
Cameron
