Very pleased to see the amount of activity on this forum. I was lucky enough to be allowed in the beta testing and so became a fan boy for this title very early on. It took me awhile to get over the WITE comparisons but once I did really found this game a breath of fresh air. I see the Map has taken a bit of a beating yet others have rallied to it's defence. Some of the abstraction has been questioned and again others have defended the design choices.Even the role play elements and decisions have taken a few hits and that's my favourite part of it all. The not my cup of tea review was very well wrote and very well thought out very fair overall. Well for me this is very much my cup of tea and I can't wait for the patches and the modders to add the rest of the sugar and mines a very sweet tooth. Yet above all it's great to see that wargamming as a hobby is alive and well and a whole lot of those that do it are still posting their opinions when a game worthy of them rears it's head. Whilst by their very nature the opinions expressed are often contrary that is very much the nature of the beast we don't often agree sometimes we cannot even agree to disagree but at least it seems that we are all still alive and kicking or at least posting.

As an aside to my main post here is a bit of a ethical question for everyone. The other half decided it was time to get my Christmas presents yesterday so what with the Matrix sale and this being out I took the plunge and managed to pick up a very good bundle of games this included. After purchase she then promptly informed me I was not allowed to look at them till the big day itself. Now being a beta tester I am still able to play that version of this game so the question is would playing the Beta version be classed as cheating and result in the long suffering death she promised me should she see any of the titles purchased on my laptop. Of course a braver man than myself would ask her this question but not being that brave decided to ask here instead someone might even post a good enough excuse to appease her.

It depends how honest you are and how well she knows wargames! If she catches you how will she know which game you are playing? My wife wouldn't be able to differentiate any two games in our line up!

I think the more serious hardcore grognard who usually plays at this scale will like it less than those who like myself love it. As I imagine they prefer the detail GGWITE goes into with regards TOE's etc to create historical accuracy..where I think this also does but in a different way altogether and for me ends up with the same result..a great wargame that captures the conflict extremely well. As I said this just does it in a different way. That's not to say all those who love the GG games wont like it, I'm sure alot will if they like the way the game has gone about creating immersion and the troubles of command.
I do imagine though if GGWITE had a similar roleplay\decision mechanic they'd be in wargame heaven:)

I just wished they had included corp hq's.
Also would have liked to see the supply model from wtp instead of the simplified cb model.

I hope you learned your lesson typhoon. I never, ever, tell my wife when buying a new game. Next year have her get you pajamas or underwear for Christmas. So take your mdeicine like a man and don't play the game until Christmas. It will be a good reminder of what to do next year. [:'(]
