Getting confused

Post by elmo3 »

At my age it's not hard to get me confused... [;)] I made a German armored car troop type and used it to add a recon battalion to the historical table so my Panzer Divs and Mot Inf Divs could get the recon unit.

First question - I saved the updated troop type library to a new version name. In the historical library editor I have to load the new troop type library to see the armored car. Can I remove the old version of the troop type library without wrecking everything that uses it or do I need both now?

Second question - After making the update to the historical library I loaded it and the new troop type library in the simple editor. But when I go to the map and look at the Pz Div and Mot Inf Div units they do not have the recon battalion added. Do I have to remake every unit on the map that now uses the recon battalion?

Edit - If I add a new Pz Div then the recon battalion is there so it sounds like the answer to #2 is yes I need to remake all my Pz and Mot Inf Divs. Ugh.

Edit - And if I wasn't confused enough already, when I just went back in to edit the German historical library, the revised troop type library I had added was not listed any more?! Only the original troop type library is listed.

Never mind. I'm giving up on adding an armored car. The pic is not a transparency so it looks bad with the other unit graphics. When I compare the armored car to another unit all the choices are now doubled since I added the revised troop type library and still have the original. It's not worth the trouble to fix it all at this point.

How do I add a new TroopType into my existing units already on the map?

1. Go to trooptype editor. Add the trooptype to the troopType library. Do not change the name of the library. Save trooptype lib.

2. Go to historical editor. Do not delete the existing trooptype library. Just select it and press 'add library' it will allow you to oreload and update the currently linked trooptype library. Make the changes that put the new trooptype in the TOEs. Save historical library.

3. Go to the simple editor. First reload the revised trooptype library. Secondly reload the revised historical library.

Note: That if for example you added an extra unit to a model in the historical library the simple editor will not automaticly place this extra unit on the map.

Ps: I am going to add a button in the next version that allow you to place the missing sub-part manually.

My giving the TroopType library a new version number is what messed everything up. That runs contrary to the advice to put new version numbers on files as you change them.

Hi Elmo,

Ran a test. But changing the version number does not cause the duplicate issue. You must have pressed the 'change' button and one point causing the new version not to substitute the old version.
Added a 'are you sure' popup to avoid future mistakes here.

Furthermore you can fix your issue in v0.79c by going to the debug tab and pressing 'Remove Problems'.

Best wishes,
Vic
