Quick question: are Matrix games all Steam activated?

No. Some are and some are not. You can take your Matrix serial number and register it at Slitherine to get a steam key for those who have them. The Slitherine site does have a list of games where a Steam key is available.

For now as far as I know you can get "all" Matrixgames/Slitherine games at the official sites without having to use Steam client. They are one of the few left though.

Steam is okay, just have to check the background first before buying it. Try avoid DRM or that account that need to be made from another website. I remember playing Silent Hunter V (I think its V) that needed a account to play and it wasn't friendly at all. Just do some research before checking in on that software.
