Hi there, (it might be kinda long but please bear with me.)

My current game is 2142, I am playing as Humans in VeryHard game with AI improvement mod 1.04, with auto generated 11 AI game started as Prewarp, tech is cheap 60k and my homesystem is excellent, pirates are Few and they are normal strenght. I played completly manuel at first years than I set character locations to auto and some of the things in suggest, after a while when i get +100 military ships I set Fleets and attacks to auto. other than that it is fully manuel.

I got few SS for you

Igot 44B population which half of them living in my Homeworld.

My homeworld has 2 Trade World Wonders and one colony it self generates 1906k %84 of Empire GDP other colonies taxed low or 0 inorder to boost population growth.


I got 530 ships and 3rd in the galaxy in military power.

My questions are how the hell that Ackdraian can support their massive Fleets (even they got racial -20% maintanence bonus and + way of darkness goverment type bonus still it doesnot seem possible to maintain that many ships with its weaker economy.

They got like 2100 size Capital ships while i still got 650 size ships ( I am not behind at Tech levels I suppose.)

I got -230k annually with 1,5 M money in bank AND I still try to pump out ships but I cant gets my economy positive and considering to switch to Corporate nationalism for few years to hoard money. (by the way when to return republic or military dictatorship etc? is %10 corruption is good point to switch goverment from C.N or should we wait for atleast %20 percent.) I tried it in other save file +900k annuel profit really boost coffers.)

Another question is how to get bigger revenues from other colonies. Most of them are taxed %0 from the beginning of their colonisation or invation however they are still 1-5B pop range there for shitty 150k or so revenues. I got Korribian Spice and mining 8 different LuxResources in my territory. there for most of my colonies are +100 development and getting +6 +8 percent pop growth rates but still it is not enough.

Another problem i have;
Even when i anhiliate the neigbour empires They still got shitload of troops on their worlds. For Ex. Dum Braddin is very weak empire and I made few fights with them They dont have any spaceport-ship etc but theygot 2607k garrisoned troops on their colony. How to conquer that world with regular invasion even with usage of Special forces combined with inf and armor it still takes ages and very huge invesment to simply conquer 1 World and yet they got 20B pop in it and it is constantly rebelling. I had very hard time trying to control it in my Ketarov Colony and ended up exterminating pop to managable 200m levels... Bombarding is other option but i am on edge of knife and cant get anymore hit to my reputation...


I played this game to 2155 or so and ended up gangbanged buy ackdarian and its puppet allies... Even that they became extremely powerfull that Eruktah refugees (later Shakturi having hard time againt them.)
So i opened up my earlier save file which is 2142 as i said at the beginning and trying to find solution for that inevitable end [:D]

-50% maintenance (racial plus government) + whatever maintenance research they did is a huge savings. Remember Ackdarians can build 20% bigger than normal and 60% faster. The AI mod goes for construction techs much better than normal AI.

AFAIK, refits to civilian ships/bases comes out of the civilian sector funds; so it could be seen as an exploit and doesn't do much to address the bigger problems.

IIRC, the bonus from wonders doesn't stack. I'm not 100% certain, so hopefully can check this. If so, having 2 wonders on your homeworld is denting your potential income.

Say goodbye to all those civilian freighters moving resources around. CN will dismantle them all (or most). CN should only be considered in the most DIRE of economic catastrophe. It's like America electing Trump to deal with immigration problems. The cure can be far worse than the disease.

Make a fleet with a reasonable invasion force and send it around hitting soft targets. Rack up their experience, and build clone troops to squash your enemies with.

I just do not consider sharing the lux with others but from now on I will trade with them to get more trade income. most of the time they just trade sanction me so I usually not consider trading extreme rare lux anyways [>:]


I reloaded my initial game to look at Private bases and other desing.. You made them fortress with more than twice the initial invesment and afterwards maintanence.. I do not really know but i read in this from that making generic miningstations should be as simple as possible and if destroyed just que another one to replace it. Only fortify the custom made refuelling stations. I would love to hear idea behind mini fortress mining station desings.


the total military power decreased like 10k from my initial save so i go through the state ships desing. Destoreyer seems not changed apart from regular upgrade.

cruiser desing is heavly changed like 300firepower to 80 Firepower , 2100 shield to 1700

capital gone 4300shield to 2100, and Firepower 121 to 165
All the stances changed to pointblank. I get it for the blaster beam weapons but should not assault missiles best at Standoff. They dont lose power per distance so i read that it is good weapon to kite with frigates standing off at the edge of firing range and take out static Bases or big ships without taking any DMG

You also retired all the explorers i suppose any reason? Doesnot they scout the enemy territory when engaging other empires?

another thing is you used heavily the Maxos blaster. why is that? resource management? Nekros Helium and Gold are easier to supply than the things required for shatter force or impact assult blaster or even titan?

Another thing you made all the Private freigter class exactly same. Why so?

And about fleet formation you made it Auto and i run game for a while. It doesnot seem to divide your big fleets in to smaller ones. Usually when it is made auto it ended up dividing my 50 ship fleet to 20 ship fleet and sending lone ships to patrol escort etc.


Another question is how does fleet postures work without enabling automation. Just setting homeworld and Defend order with radius is enough? Should not it be automated inorder to defend the area in it? or simple refueling it self.





Just figured that options for empire policies etc. do they vary from game to game, save to save?

Yeah, AFAIK the development bonus divided in two. first %50 is come from Pop which maxed at 500m and above and other %50 come from different Lux that colony has. and 10lux contribute max stack of %50.. If wanted to achive more development wonders etc needed. Is this correct? I read similar thing in forum but not sure though.

Yep, Done exact same thing in my new game which i Easly win due to Normal Diff and very lucky spawn. Getting clone facility up and running is very beneficial and efficient.

Sorry, not trying to harp on you. I wasn't sure how familiar you are with how economics works in DW.

wow no need to be sorry mate, i am trying to learn as much as possible. never hesitate to give info even if its trivial or not. I appreciate anything[&o][&o][&o]

I am using AI improvement mod 1.04 along with GEM (graphic enhancment mod) and some other sound mods etc.. Will go to Extended universe later. Still need a lot to learn even for vanilla races.

I think i will sink few hours on ship design on internet. seems like i need to learn few more tricks and ratios,balance- usage of guns rather than just focusing on Beam and pointblank on fast destroyers everygame. Knowing what is what is fun. (i will probably still stick with fast pointblank ships with high DPS though[8D])

Yes, I can understand if you are playing role-playing style and want to follow that, if you are not friends with someone, you wouldn't trade with them..

well, welcome to amazing Distant Worlds 1 AI.. Wait for DW2 and hope they don't focus too much on multiplayer, and maybe they will get Artificial Intelligence correct in the second game. you will see what I mean later. ha.

I used to play with no shield and only mining and gas extractors mines.. they were so cheap and did build really fast.. and then when I had a war, they all got destroyed and my constructors didn't even keep rebuilding them and it was a mess.. so you might as well go the fortress route and try to keep your mines/gas stations alive till an amazingly automated fleet can get there to defend.. (your screwed either way though when it's shakturi attacking your mines whether they are fortresses or not)

The only reason I didn't change your Destroyers is because you had like 200 of them.. haha and I liked the idea of 10 phasers on them.. So I put them in 1 huge fleet and now you got a overloaded powerhouse fleet to phase out the other guys.. That's the only reason I didn't change your destroyers.. haha.

I'll have to go back into your game but I think I just lowered there stuff to make them not use so much energy to sprint.. have you seen your energy requirements on your designs?! It was like 140 energy to sprint! sprint is when your ships attack other ships! so you have 140 energy being used and then your weapons needed to fire which also use 90 energy or something! Do you see why now I lowered them? just specifically for those reasons.. nothing else as far as I remember..

you are correct sir, I just changed them to pointblank because of knowing I was going to be versing the Shakturi soon and you ain't gonna get anywhere on "standoff" to kill anything of a shakturi little mini escort even.. So I put pointblank and maybe even a tractor beam on all 100 of the capital ships so they bulk up and gang up on when the shakturi attack you..

just that simple reason is all.. That is my tactic and you may not like it..but that's how I defend against the shakturi..

Now, you are correct about some distance lost of damage weapons and you can go down that route.. but in the end, you are either going to see its about having "standoff" with 20 maximum researched torpedoes or "pointblank" with 10 titanbeams to kill anything.. (really shakturi..)

or standoff with 20 assualt missles.. etc.. but you'll see the max researched torpedoes and titan beams will do you better..

I've never had it work but yes supposedly they do "scout".. I just was thinking not to pay for maintenance and explorers are dead to me.. ha.

I think I was just using what you had at the time cause you were researching phasers all the way and only had the maxos blaster I think.. can't remember but just wanted a weapon that would kill ships fast.. and for me, beams will do that.. I was also thinking since now you have a fleet of 100 5 maxos blaster beam ships together on point blank to gang rape.. right?

this was kinda a test.. basically I did that because the way the "amazing artificial intelligence" works in this game so far, with all their team devoted to singleplayer AI,(hehe)- apparently its a little tactic to force even if a "small frieghter" goes to pick up gas, It should bring back a "large" load of gas.. simple reasoning behind that now right?

Yeah this one you are on your own, Distant Worlds still had a few unanswered things and this is one of them.. I don't know why but turning on automation with fleet and etc doesn't appear to actually divide up and make fleets.. so.. yeah.. I also can't get the Automation to control my fleet making either.. way to go Matrix..

supposedly ... and i mean supposedly.. (here is your AI again..) if you set a defend and set home base and then set the distance (target,system,nearby system etc..) a blue circle shows up where your home base is and they are supposed to.. supposed to.. SUPPOSED TO defend and run to any enemies.. including if they are not on "auto" mode.. and apparently even putting them in "auto" mode (pressing "A") then the computer will do whatever it wants with Fleets..

But hey, here is your 100% developed AI again from Matrix..

one more thing I liked how your carriers had like 10 fighter bays.. that was cool.. I actually use figherbays but did things like put 1 fighter bay on the cheapest ship for like $1000 credits and then built 20 of them during the EARLY game.. but it's probably far better off having more expensive carriers and just put lots of fighter bays on them like your designs..
