Support Attachment Limits

In the game manual it states the maximum number of support units an HQ can commit is 6 support units (other than if defending in Light or Heavy Urban hexes). It also states that the US can commit an additional 6 artillery units and British/Canadian 4 artillery units over the 6 limit. Also, that the allies have a greater chance to commit their artillery support units.

So, if an HQ had 2 armor, 2 anti-tank and 2 engineer support units AND 6 artillery units, would I be correct in thinking that the allies would possibly commit the armor, anti-tank and/or engineers in addition to up to 6 of the artillery units?

So would assigning more than 6 artillery (for US) or 4 (for British and Canadian) be redundant?

Thanks

The support units in the division don't count. More firepower is never a bad thing for the allies

From the manual:

"Support units attached to headquarters units must pass a series of checks in order to be committed to a battle."

The way that reads to me is that each SU runs a check, so more SUs should be more chances until you max out.

How do you detach SU's from a corps? And what is the purpose of attaching SU's directly to a division? To guarantee they participate in battle and when they are out of corps range?

When I want to strip all the support units from my corps so I can arrange them into different corps, I set the soft factor (top right corner of the interface) to show Current: Units Attached.

Now if the unit has a green triangle on the top left corner, it has no support units. If it is red, then it has three. (and so on).

Then I can click the division on the map, select the support unit in the Assign Support Units list at the bottom then change it's HQ to whatever Army is in the list. This way it flows directly from the division it is attached to the army. (or Main HQ).

Or you can just hit the 'x' and send it back to the parent Corp HQ.

Note that if you want to send support units across water/enemy lines you have to do it by changing it's HQ. From a Corp HQ (or higher) it can only be to an Army HQ (or higher). From a division, you can push the support unit to a different Corp HQ.
