I find that my forts don't disappear when taken by the Germans as it says in the manual this is to give the Russians a chance to take the fort back. All well and good. That the Germans get bonuses for the fort not so good as it makes counter attacking almost impossible. Can this be right ?

You're given one turn to retake them before they disappear.

If the Germans move in and occupy them you're chances of recovering them would be slim. They do indeed receive a benefit provided the forts weren't too badly damaged (the green structural points bar still has something in it).

Their Pioneers are working away at laying charges and they'll be gone soon.
