Should not Sevastopol be worth more victory points. As it is now there are no real incentive for Germany to divert forces to Crimea. Other than to block the Soviet forces trapped there.

Possibly, plus that being a major city would give it the abilty to receive a proper garrison which would be more befitting its historical fortifications. And Stalin would no doubt rage if it were lost. Maybe its a balance decision on that basis to limit a little how many paranoid rages Stalin can have.
As it is then I believe the incentive for the Germans to divert forces there is to win in the southern sector you need Rostov and either Sevastopol or Kharkov. Usually I imagine folks take Kharkov as its more on the axis of advance, more difficult to defend for the soviets, and Germany is usually fairly unlikely to reach Rostov if can't take Kharkov. As it is the difference in PPs between major and minor cities isn't huge, they are all worth taking.

Hi Orm,
It's kept as a minor city in order to give the Germans a fighting chance of taking it.
Making it a major city would, as Gunnulf has pointed out, allow for a major garrison. It's also an easily defended area with the Perekop Isthmus.
As the Soviets are spread fairly thin in AGS they'll usually prioritise the defence of Kharkov and provide some scope for an alternative strategy for the German Player.
Cheers,
Cameron

While I understand your reasoning I do not agree with it.
As Germany I would not invest any real forces to advance toward Sevastopol with no real reward. Why waste time and effort on it when there are other cities that are easier to capture. Even better if USSR waste energy on putting troops there.
And as Soviet Union I would be happy if Germany diverted forces towards Crimea. Maybe placing a minor garrison or two to slow the German invasion of Crimea down.
As I see it there is no reason for either reason to make a historical campaign towards Crimea.
With that said I should mention that I am still a novice learning this game. So what do I know. [:D]

Hi Orm,
As mentioned in another post the Crimea, in general, could do with a make over in order to make it a more attractive German target.
