Rommel attacks!

The Afrika Panzer Corps opens the assault on the Allies right wing.
The Algiers Sahrien FF Inf Btn shatters, while its sister units the Meharist Sahrien FF Inf Btn and Goums El FF Sahrien Cav Btn are routed.

Rommel's panzers scout the Americans open flanks and envelope the defenders of Kasserine.

Elsewhere the French positions are probed in the center while von Arnim's right wing remains quiet for the moment.

In England ULTRA intercepts let Churchill know that Rommel's week one objectives have been obtained before Hitler is out of bed.

On the flip side:

A dog fight in the Kasserine Pass at the end of the second week.
The Germans are digging in, with Allied forces retaking the airfield.

Axis 2nd turn complete.
Rommel has been recalled to Europe to explain his rash assault.

Meanwhile, the Allied forces at Sdid Bouzid have surrendered, and an American armored force that attempted to link up with the Americans from Kasserine has taken refuge with them in the mountains.

Image

Von Arnhim doesn't have Rommel's zeal for the offensive, and waits for a chance to strike a counter blow.

What armor unit is that?

That's some distinct country, around Ra's al Guermoua, a 3946ft / 1203m peak in the mountain range southeast of Kasserine,

Springs and natural pools. View from mountain range, I believe looking back toward Kasserine.

What armor unit is that?

CCA 1st US Arm Bde and 2/34th US Inf Div begin the scenario on that objective.

Axis 3rd turn:

The Kasserine Pass is again the scene of fierce combat as the Allies attempt to relieve the besieged Americans.

Image

The Afrika Panzer Korps again wastes no time in launching counter attacks.
CCB 1st US Arm Bde routs to safety, but the rest of the Allied armor is not as lucky.

well played Seminole. like I said in one of your other AARs - you are very good at this.

you get the most out of your ground game for sure. you grabbed the initiative in both matches and I can only scramble to stay afloat

Kudos to the map maker for this scenario. The threat of rain throws determinism out the window.

I thought I'd buggered my Allied game out of the gate (Nicht Kleckern sondern Klotzen!), and still didn't get what I wanted out of last week.
Tried a different strategy in this round for both sides, more conservative. I like my changes for the Axis side, not so much for the Allied side...

I for one am really looking forward to the matches between Seminole and Liquid Sky. I hope there are comprehensive AARs from both sides for both games.

I'm confident he will have some tricks up his sleeve. He defintely pulled a big surprise in his round 1 match! [:'(]
My advantage is an extra set of matches to test and refine ideas.
well played Seminole- I never stood a chance

My goal from the outset was to create in you that mindset.

I hope there are more tourneys like this in the future, even if with no reward, simply because it creates an impetus to explore the scenarios. I couldn't really test some of my ideas against the AI because it still resorts to some 'warping' that obviates advantage by maneuver (e.g. French infantry divisions appearing on the southern flank on week 2 that simply could not be moved that far).
But when you put a human on the horns of a dilemma - that's the real thrill in these games for me.

without a doubt there was some Stonewall Jackson in your games - that was exactly what i thought of when i was playing. i opened a couple turns and was stunned. and then i would make mistakes due to being set off balance by your moves, and felt i was trying to just stay in the game rather than win it

you definitely deserve to be in the final, IMO
