I know that some players probably find the map view form useful. I preview to use the world map, maximized on my second monitor, to navigate around the main map. Is there a way to turn off the map view form so that it never appears? I know that I can "X out" of it, but it usually pops back up again when the turn goes to the next phase.

You can delete the map views but the form probably still shows up - it would be a lot smaller though. Then you can use the screen layout feature to put the map view form in some far off corner. You'd have to do this 9 times as there are map views for all powers including Vichy.

I agree with hazmaxed, it's kind of mission impossible to get rid of that form window. If you close it or make it small, it comes back after a few minutes (maybe when you change power as Paul said). I put in in a corner where it doesn't disturb too much and ignore it, but if there is a way to handle it properly I would like to know. In some cases, like Barbarossa, maps views are not so needed.

Yes, I've deleted the individual map views from the map view form, and it does make it smaller and less obtrusive. I'll have to see if it "sticks" to an out-of-the-way spot.

It would be nice if it were an interface option check-box to not ever appear.

I have another issue with the map view.
I like it a lot, but I can not make new map views. Every time I make one and save it, it is there for one turn and then disappears. Any tips?

Every new map view is in the folder for MapViews (see page 208 of volume 2 of the Players manual for the file structure). To make it permanently part of the list of Map Views, you need to Redefine the {current} Screen Layout.

I like the idea of getting rid of the Map View window too. I have a relatively small screen and don't use it at all...
