Scenarios and Campaign Game

Is it possible to play the individual scenarios outside of the campaign game ?
That's another way of asking how historically accurate are the individual scenarios.
My only interest in playing something like this would be to see/experience a reasonable facsimile of actual battles.
If the OOB's change depending on how successful you were in previous battles, the one thing you know is that the OOB's can't possibly be all that historically correct.
Playing Guadacanal from either side holds no interest if I don't know that I have the same forces at my disposal (and arrayed against me) as the actual participants.
