BB-62 New Jersey

I've been going through my dad's stuff since he passed away early last year, and it seems he went to the commissioning ceremony for New Jersey when it was recommissioned in 1968, and he kept the ceremony 'program' booklet. Since I can't save all of his stuff, and he didn't actually serve on the ship (he was in the Army at the time), I thought I would try to get this into the hands of someone or a relative of someone who served on the ship. If they were in the crew at the time of commissioning their name should be in this book. I can check if you aren't sure.

I'll hit a forum/mailing list that is more specific to the New Jersey if I don't find anyone here, but since many of you have Navy veterans in the family I thought I'd post here first.

PM or reply here if interested!

That is a nice gesture. My dad is 86 now. Liberty ships, then destroyers. I know if he was BB man on
the New Jersey he would have loved a chance to peruse the names.

In the war dad served on the Cape Chalmers first (at Leyte) then shortly there after the Perry. He was a signalman.

[:)] Nice! Hope you can make a connection, am sure it will light up a families day!

Wife's dad was Navy armed guard, liberty ships, in the drink twice, once declared dead. Her mom still has the telegram. Whenever I see Monty Pyton's Holy Grail and the scene with "I'm not dead yet!" he comes to mind...

I am A chief in the Navy, and do a camp over once a year (With new Chiefs) on the New Jersey. They have a museum section onboard with many alum working her as tour guides. You could always reach out to the Museum and see if you could donate it.

I would help out with more details but I am deployed currently. She Is moored in Camden New Jersey.
