Hi.
I played a soviet campaign, level not normal but the one above against the AI.
Game version 1.02g

The campaign ended on a game over for me the september 31 1941. I thought the game was supposed to end in 1942. I do not understand why.

I'am holding north front very good. There is a huge battle around moscow and i'am holding.

South front is a disaster i just lost stalingrad but it is not in the soviet sudden death condition in the manual.
The manual say sudden death only if i loose my 3 big cities. And i still have leningrad and moscow.

Any one know why my game ended ? (And it is only a minor german victory, so even the german AI shall be angry of the stop).

My final position screen :

Great job whatsoever the challenge offered by the AI is interesting !!

argh ... this must be frustrating.
No idea why it ended.
Generally speaking I dislike the idea of time limitation which should IMO be optional (ie, possibility to continue the game after the final date in 42).

Hi Stelteck,

Gorki. Game over.

This was added post release.

There is a page of updates to the manual to reflect changes since.

DC : Barbarossa Manual Errata

Cheers,
Cameron

Your final positions look eerily similar to what I 'achieved'. A German tidal wave pushing everything aside.

4.6.1.1 Sudden Death Victory Conditions
The Germans can achieve this by taking Gorki OR by taking all three objective cities (with Kharkov or Sevastopol in addition to Rostov)

"Gorki" : This is very frustrating. What is the reason (sorry i'm not historically very competent)?

Shouldn't this be optional ?

I think the idea is that if the Germans get that far, it's an act of kindness to put the Russians out of their misery and end the game. That, plus the fact that Gorki is the main supply source for the Russians, so once it falls most Russian units will be out of supply and there's no point continuing...

For what it's worth, you can continue playing after the game ends. The game gives a warning that it's not designed to keep going, but as far as I can tell all the core mechanics still work, the AI still makes moves etc.

Hi,

As ChuckBerger has pointed out, if the main Ural rail link into Moscow gets cut (Gorki) the Soviets main lifeline of supply, hardware and reinforcements is choked off.

Resistance could no doubt continue but in a fragmented, balkanised manner.

From a game point of view it'd be terminal.

Cheers,
Cameron
