I just upgraded my Mac version to the new 2.2.5. In doing so I evidently replaced the older version. As a result all my units and upgrades, as well as leaders, for the campaign in progress seems to have disappeared. Looks like I will have to start all over. Is there any way to recover those stats and units?

To preclude this in the future I am guessing I need to check save both or will this only give me two different versions of the game instead of one upgraded one? How does one upgrade the Mac version without losing all the data for a campaign in progress.
