I have trawled through the manual and this forum but don't seem to be able to find any information on
whether air units can be assigned to give support to a particular task force

I have ordered a task force to hopefully intercept some jap transports and escort of the north borneo coast,
but am aware off Japanese air units in the area, I was wondering if it is possible to assign a squadron of
buffalo's to fly escort exclusively for my naval task force

Remember, anytime you assign a group for LRCAP missions, you should also set their "rest mode" to at least 30% or the number of planes and flights will drop like a rock during the day.
Try to use planes with long legs to begin with and the need for rest decreases.

NOTE! When assigning the escort over a particular fleet, it may give you an error message that the target fleet is out of range currently, but it WILL assign the LRCAP mission which WILL be performed once your fleet is in range.

I also like Buffalos for early war LRCAP because sometimes just their mere presence will cause enemy "unescorted" bombers to flee rather than attack.

interesting issue. do the Japanese zeros have that option for LR cap? I have not noticed it. Maybe is it only activated when using Drop tanks option? i should check it.
