The game starts fine and I can press the "play distant worlds button" where I get the loading screen. But the moment that the game seems to start I'll get a Windows "the game has stopped responding" message. Any thoughts?

dual chips, onboard chip and card for vga, make sure you run the game off the card and not the onchip one

run the game from a admin account and use full admin permissions.

please make sure all game pre requisite are installed with the game, even if you think or fully know there are already installed, it will only over write, and it may be that you have a older or newer version of these where as the game in question may need a certain version.

please make sure you are running the latest game version and have up to date drivers installed on your pc,

If you have the original version. So you'll need to update it from the Internet.
Please note that you'll only need the last update, as the updates are comprehensive. (not needed with steam)

If you have a hybrid laptop and running on Windows 10, make the integrated card as the preferred graphic card in the Nvidia Control Panel instead of High-Performance NVidia card.

No luck, any other suggestions?

Are you running a Steam version?

Actually I got it to work. I have the steam version, I went into the startup.ini and set my resolution to 1024x768 and set playmovie to 0. At first I didn't think it had worked. Starting it from the launcher doesn't work, but starting it directly from the .exe file does. So I'm very happily playing the game now

i bet you default media player is films and TV then and not media player, alter than and even the intro might work[;)]

No that's not it, I've already got windows media player set as default. It was actually one of the first things that I tried, unfortunately it didn't work.

Maybe the type of windows he has? (windows K? windows media this and that.. or windows w/bing or special version of windows media etc.. who knows..)

It's good Matrix, Elliot, whoever decided to let the game run without the intro video though!!

well as long as it works, was just trying to see if it was something else so if others had the same issues these post would help them tbh
