Just a fun question...

My current 1,000-star, 10x10 sector Old start Extreme/Chaos Extended AI Improvement Mod v1.05 game which started out with 11 empires (now has 37) at Year 2607 has a save-game file that's 114,518kb.[:'(]

It's still playable?

Sure! It can take a while to load, but I have no performance issue other than some chop-iness on Strategic view. And That is playing on my laptop. Battles run fine, and I don't have any crashes.

I'm pretty sure I had one that was 120,700.. I probably don't have it anymore.. But I'll look.. It did take forever to load..

Nice... I just want to reiterate how much fun this game is , for me particularly on the epic scale. I have @ 127 colonies, giving me approx. 1/3 of the Galaxy, and there are still a few AI empires that can give me a good fight. Anyway- MAYBE I will finish this game before DW 2 comes out. [:D]

you'll have to take my word for it.. I don't remember the exact number but I'm sure I saw 115,000-120,000 size of .dwg file..

Yes, I've had bigger ones in the past, and always playable. Of course, the more RAM you have, the better.

my bigger one at the moment is less than half in size: 1.000 stars, 10x10 17 empires at start

this month I'm playing DW:U on my old laptop with 1 Gb of RAM.. [>:]

I usually abandon any unfinished games when the savefile reaches the 80 MB mark. Just takes too long for autosave to happen for my liking.

I'm rarely able to find the time to play several hours in a single sitting, so I usually keep it small galaxy/medium-high star-count or large galaxy/low star-count to minimise loading and saving times now, plus I don't make research too expensive so all the best toys aren't too far away. Besides, I'm an efficient galactic warlord. When I begin my campaign to destroy my enemies, I make sure they're destroyed.

I prefer to start pre-warp, slowly grow-up, exploring the surrounding with 2-3 explorers dreaming in the meantime my future grandeur:
