Anyone else old enough to remember Mech Brigade by SSI? I was probably playing this 30 years ago today.
Strange to think the cold war was still being waged at the time!

And I thought I was the oldest person here, yes I do remember it but to me I like "Kampfgruppe" by SSI better. I still have my Commodore 128 computer in the closet [:D]

I still have it somewhere, for PC. Still works, last I knew. The graphics are, umm, underwhelming but once you got past that it was a real time sink. I just bought Campaign Series: Middle East the other day and hoping it will have some of that same tactical level flavor. Of course, all I really want is an honest, complete and accurate implementation of Squad Leader on Linux and windows but what can you do.

I still have both of those and Overrun on my shelf. Did edits and mods on those back in the day before modding was a word. Good times.

Oh yeah, Kampgruppe and Mech Brigade, C64 stalwarts. I remember the Kampfgruppe Amiga port too, and being on the phone with SSI about the bugs in that one. But these games, as primitive as they seem to be today, were hella fun back then.

For some reason I missed Kampfgruppe. I spent a lot of time with Typhoon of Steel and War in the South Pacific. The box art was somewhat better than the game graphics. But the games were great at the time. I had Overrun as well. A lot of memories come back when looking at the box art - more so than when looking at the actual gamplay.

Those were also the days when you'd go into a shop and actually be surprised to find something new on the shelf, as without the 24/7 bombardment of product info we have today--much less digital distribution!--the pace of things was a lot slower. Box art was crucial in getting your attention, and though the gap between the art and the in-game graphics was pretty severe, it was still cool to have a neat box.

SPI's Mechwar 2-Red Star White Star and their Central Front series were my all time favorites, even more so than CNA (Campaign for North Africa) and Desert Fox...
This Flashpoint-Red Storm series is just Heaven on a stick for me
