Close Combat

I can not get this to work.
The manual says that during the advance segment you may move into an enemy hex. The hex will be identified by a marker and the result will occur during the close combat phase.
I have never been able to move into an enemy hex.
Would someone be kind enough to explain how close combat works to me?

You can only advance into an enemy hex during the Advance Segment. Then CC is handled auto by the AI for both sides in the CC Segment.

Thanks, but I have tried that and it did not seem to work. I will try again.
