British AFV firing issue

I was testing a scenario with British and Russian AFVs (other units also) and I found that I couldn't select an ammo type when the Brit AFVs were trying to fire their main guns at an AFV target. The bow and coax MGs work fine, and main gun vs infantry targets also works fine, but main gun vs. AFVs is a problem.

I thought maybe the issue was in my scenario - composition of units, terrain, whatever - so I created a very small dual human scenario and popped in a wee bit of hills and several Brit and Russian AFVs, then tested it. Same issue - can't select ammo for the Brit AFVs at all.

I can select a target, can select the type of target (AFV) but when I get to the last stage - selecting the ammo type - all four options are grayed out. Russians can fire at the Brits, but Brit AFVs cannot fire at the Russian AFVs. Problem exists in both Fire Phase and Defensive Fire Phase.

I'm hoping that the problem is, as a good friend who typically solves my IT issues often suggests, somewhere between my keyboard and the back of the chair that I'm sitting in, but I can't figure out what it is. I've read and re-read the manual, and doesn't seem that I'm doing or not doing anything that would explain the issue - so figured I'd post it here and see what the geniuses in both Devs and players might suggest.

It also may be some strange bug that exists ONLY when combat is between Brits and Russians, since there aren't any pre-made scenarios with that force mix, and maybe it only exists for my weird "alternate reality" scenarios when the Brits and Russians meet - but it is NOT an issue with American vs. Russians.

Anyway - it's all yours guys...

Save game file for this little test scenario is attached.

The British Tanks you have chosen cannot fire AP. They should however be able to Fire HEAT so there is a bug here. I'll notify Peter.

Thanks, Paullus. Is there something in the manual that tells us that? Are there any British tanks that can fire AP or APDS of APRC rounds? Even the Pershing can't fire AP? That is amazing since it's an American tank - the Brits reconfigured the main gun on the Pershing? Wow...I had no idea.

But again thanks for the quick response. If you can let me know which British tanks were AP round capable, that would be helpful, but not necessary.

No there is nothing in the manual. Here is a couple of tanks that can fire AP:
Stuart V
All Shermans except the IB
Cromwell IV and VII
Challenger
Comet
Valentine VIII and XI
Churchill VI and VII

Thanks again. I apologize - I realized on my way home from work that I could figure that out for myself just by creating a test scenario with all the Brit tanks and trying each of them. Just did that and (unsurprisingly) my results showed me that almost all the ones you listed do, in fact, have AP capability. In my test, however, the Cromwell VII has the same problem that I mentioned earlier - can't select an armor, so perhaps you could pass that along to Peter?

Thanks!

Thanks Krys, this bug (already fixed) will be included in the upcoming patch.

This bug affects the following vehicles:

CHURCHILL V Medium Tank
CHURCHILL VIII Medium Tank
CENTAUR IV Medium Tank
CROMWELL VI Medium Tank
CROMWELL VIII Medium Tank

IMPORTANT: when creating scenarios, make sure you set the date of the scenario to be proper (your scenario is set at September 1 1939) because it has impact on special ammunition availability. CROMWELL VIII Medium Tank was not available in WW2 September 1 1939, instead the scenario should be set from January 1st 1943.

As regards to ammo types, I have noticed that several AT guns (the 25mm Hotchkiss, 2pdr, 4.2cm lePaK and possibly others) are able to fire HE at personnel, which they shouldn't.

In "Defensive positions at Outreau" I charged a lone 2pdr, certain it would be defenceless against my infantry, only to have a stack killed while they were moving in the open (yes, I know since 1978 that you NEVER move in the open). On the other hand, since Churchill tanks acted a bit shy, I greatly enjoyed stopping the British infantry with my 4.2 cm guns in "The Battle of the Cactus Farm" [:D] even though it was not very historical.

Anyway, I'm having great fun with TotH! [&o]

This is something that should be listed in the chart in the manual?

Boy, that is an excellent point. It should have been obvious to me, but I didn't catch it at all. Very, very good to know and absolutely adds a level of historical accuracy that enhances the game. You've really done a superb job on TOTH. Only problem is that I have a heck of a time putting it away. [:D]

Some other ammo questions [:)]. I just finished playing "Hill 621" twice (one time as the Germans, the other as the Russians), and I noticed that:

- SU-122s have no anti-tank rounds at all (if I remember correctly, they should have a few HEAT, just in case)
- StuG IIIB have both AP and HEAT, but in a very short supply (I just managed to fire both of them once, then I was left with HE only while I was facing a SU-152 [X(])
- Pz IV F1 also has a limited supply of AP rounds (they only lasted for a couple fires) and also has HEAT (which it fired only once, but killing the SU-152 [:D])

I have two questions, then:
Is it possible to display or list the ammo depletion numbers for the various guns?
Shouldn't HE rounds have some - little - effect anyway on AFVs?

I will provide chart for all the ammunition depletion functionality in the upcoming patch.

HE round firing vs vehicles is not modeled in the game.
