Help with setting research in Random Game Please

I'd like to change (lower a bit) the universal research costs in a random New Dawn 3 game. I see in Settings/RuleVars/Random Map Instructions:
#464 Research point in masterfile optimized for X prod points (0=default=>15000)=12500"
& 465 ResmodCost. (0=default=>1)=0
I'm not a programmer and I do not understand these 2 at all, or how they may interact with each other or other settings.
Any clarification/help greatly appreciated.

Have you tried this?

Yes, thanks Webizen. That does a 50% reduction only, which for me makes the research go a bit too fast. I am hoping to set it somewhere in between 50% and 100%, something like 75%.

deleted because I couldn't get rulevar464 to do anything.

Ok, ignore the above post. It didn't work that way. However, I did find the right button! Just select the box beside ResCostMod and set it to .75 if you want 75% research cost. Then click on the pink X labeled Main in top left to go back to random game startup.

Thanks Bobarossa. I have already tried that one. If I then save the altered at2 file, when you start the new random game it overrides that value and sets it to 1, so no effect.
BUT, I found the BEST solution! If you start your random game as Classic Random Game, it gives you some very nice control of the settings, including research from 20% to 500%, in 1 % increments. You can still use any of the random games however, AT classic, ATG regular, or New Dawn 3, by selecting the M button in the lower right column and then choosing the appropriate game file.
So the search, though time consuming and frustrating, has shown me a great new way to start a random game.

I didn't try saving as a scenario file (at2). I simply started the game. I've never tried the Classic option.

classic option does have a few limitations: no 1 town start, no climate settings, and none of the "extra" settings available when using New Dawn random.

You must detached the masterfile before editing or it will override your changes.

I found the problem!
I had indeed detached master file, and yes saved.
But the Research Cost variable is ALSO in the Random Game Variables rules, which overrides the one in the settings screen.
So by setting it instead of the one in the setting screen, it works in random games
