Booted up DW again after a few months of inactivity. However, the ship captains seems to be quite cross with me, as they refuse to take any of my orders. [:'(]
For example when I tell an exploration ship to go examine a planet or tell a ship to bomb an enemy home-world, they just instantly reply that they have completed their mission, even without having carried it out. They do follow orders when I tell them to move to a specific location, but more than that, nope.

I might have forgotten some important mechanic (It HAS been a while since I played last time) but I don't remember it being this rebellious to my commands. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe the planet to explore is already explored? And the bombard mission is instantly completed because the ship got no bombard weapon? I can not think of any reason outside that line of thinking.
