I would like to bring some enlightenment to the forum and recommend the novel 'Cryptonomicon' by Neal Stephenson. It is well worth reading, and has it's own website:

There's a lot of ww2 in it, so it's not entirely ot .

Yes, some of us do read, much to the astonishment, I suppose, of those who feel a duty to bring "enlightenment" to the forum. Good god a'mighty, a few blokes 'ere e'en right well knows their alphabets, bejazus, and pens 'im a stanza er two!

No time to learn that left since I have to convince my girl friend again and again to type all these subtile posts for me.

2. I did happen to notice a certain flair, imagination, and poetry in "your" more subtle posts that just didn't seem natural for what I'm used to from EL LOBO LOCO!

3. This board is hardly the place for "significant others" to be poking around in anonymously. Even 10,000 close friends can't get a little privacy anymore with guys like you mucking things up!

Has anybody read "The Last Ship" by William Brinkley?

A very good book about a U.S. Missle Cruiser that is in the Far South Pacific when Doomsday occurs. Check it out. Pretty interesting story!

If you insist on books on this forum, I feel confident to recommend some Tom Clancy books. Sum of All Fears, Executive Decision, Dragon and the Bear....are quite good...to my mind.
The movie "Sum of All Fears" sucks. I am amazed T Clancy had anything to do with it. Read the book!

Stanza of lyrics from a song I wrote to celebrate the beginning of the 21st century. It's got a harmonica intro and interlude, very Dylanesque, like stems poking out the sides of your joint and seeds exploding in the middle of the fire. You know. The usual middle-aged American Vietnam veteran crapola.

"Cryptonomicon" is on my must-read list (very long list).

I like it.
If you have read Cryptonimicon, you probably remember the quite lengthy discussion of Ares versus Athena. Ares the Warmonger and Athena the one who makes peace by going to battle. Two ways of using force, one righteous and one not. It applies to a lot of stuff in our history, and I am still trying to figure out if Stephenson is a genius or if he is scoring easy points by generalizing.
