you may want to use the most recent public beta in any case, its on the AGEOD forum at:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.p ... post363486

just download it and once its done that, run it. It'll install the new info over your existing game files so no need to fiddle around with moving files etc.

It also sorts out quite a lot from the current official patch so its a very useful upgrade.

I realise this is probably the most annoying reply anyone could make [;)] - but it works for me.

Log on to the AGEOD forums, go to the Wars of Napoleon sector and then to 'help improve WoN'. The thread you need is at the top of the page and the download instructions are in the first post.

Hope this gets you started ... despite the issues it is a very deep absorbing game ... I look forward to reading about you taking Napoleon to triumph over Perfidious Albion[;)]

edit: just to add you don't need an AGEOD account to download the beta, you can do so as a 'guest'

Copy the following link to your Internet browser address box and press Enter:

http://ftp.ageod.com/pub/WON/WONSetup_p ... arch24.exe

Do you still receive the same message?

Sadly I do not know.

The link seemed to work and I have downloaded something. The website says

You know you have properly installed the patch if on startup you read 1.02 public beta. Also in a new campaign, you should see small graphics around big cities, they are indicators of special buildings.

Well on start-up the screen is partially hidden so I cannot see any reference to any version - whether 1.02 or otherwise.

As to the small graphics, I do not know what this originally looked like so I cannot tell if there are new or different graphics [&:]

Sorry if my frustration is coming out here - not directed at the guys trying to help me of course - but Ageod, really, there is no need for life to be this complicated......

Please note that this just a beta patch, once it's final you will be able to update it normally with the game update feature.

Anyway, you can easily check if the beta is installed. Just run teh gem and click on the Credits button.
You should see displayed which version are you running:
