Why can't my motorized division attack/move?

I've played several games and thought I had a good grasp of what is necessary in terms of APs in order to conduct an attack. But in a PBEM 1.02 game that I just started, on my first turn as USSR my 84th Motorized division with 40 action points can attack southwestward along the road but not directly south. Also, while mousing over the 56th infantry division to its southeast, it says that the hex can't be entered because doing so costs 45 APs. Can anyone explain why moving to the hex containing 56th infantry costs 45 APs? According to my calculations it should cost only 35 (25 for the fields hex plus 10 for the zone of control).

Re-reading a section of the manual about a week ago highlighted that combat in a hex also adds residual AP cost. I assume this rolls over, so a combat in a specific hex in the German turn will then also affect movement in the Russian turn as well - but not totally sure on that...

If that is the case then that might account for it. Were there combats in the hex now occupied by German 35th, and Russian 56th Divs? (I'm assuming so looking at the setup)

If you still have the turn loaded you can select the hex, then hover the mouse over the terrain description at top of the screen - this then pulls down a terrain movement chart with, at the bottom, all additional effects listed (ZOC, enemy terrain or residual battle AP). This may help.

The motorized division may well be able to attack southwestwards as that follows a road therefore base AP needed is lower, which may overcome the negatives of ZOC & any battle residual AP in the hex you want to attack.

The number in the gray box under 56th Infantry is a 10, which I assume includes residual cost. If so, then I can't think of any way that moving to the hex containing 56th Inf should cost 45 AP.

Big Thanks Oleg,

I found a bug due to this savefile and your report.

Not many people are aware there is a rule that doubles the ZOC penalty on a hex if the unit trying to move in is crossing a river.

The bug was that the front boundary got counted as a river as well. (i.e 20 pts zoc counted instead of 10)

Easy to work around and calculate for if you know what is causing it.

I'll fix it in version 1.03m3 probably on monday.

Is there a combat penalty when attacking across front boundaries in addition to the buggy ZOC penalty?

Did the bug(s) get fixed in the new patch?
