I was a collector of 1/700 scale model ships but recently the micro-scale 1/2000 is fascinating.
I hope I could finally complete a collection at this scale. It really looks beautiful and easy to store.

Must say I am amazed at the amount of detail they can put in such a small scale model. I wish the post had included a picture alongside a measuring tape to see how big they are at that scale.

I had plans to do a "battle in a coffee table" in 1/700 scale. I might have to look into this instead. Thanks!

How will fulcrum28 ever be able to show off his ship models if people know where they came from? [;)]

I know that size doesn t matter , how to use it his more important but this is too tiny [:D]

Lokasenna, yes for collections, large diorama and tactical games it can work well.

There are some 1/2000 planes 3-D printed on shapeways. Not many, but a few. They don't look so good yet, but give it a few years, and I bet the detail will be good enough. As it is now the 1/700 scale are pretty good.

This guy has a lot at pretty decent quality. Lots of rare models you can't get from traditional modelers, which is nice.

I'm happy to find the USS Taney, one of my favorite Allied ships in the game. [:)]


EDIT: Also I just noticed the same shop has a 1/4800 ship section with all kinds of WW2 types, from CV, BB, DD on down to miniature escorts and even deck sets for the CVs!!


Also, some great WW1 planes at 1/144, which is a scale I like as they're still pretty miniature, but have detailing. These look workable too, in terms of paint and modifications. Nice to see a large collection and some more rare old birds.

Yes, I know shapeways too, and they are pretty good. However, as Lecivius pointed out, the scale is small and painting them can be a problem.
The ones I bought are already painted in high detail (as you can see the decks of the Zuikaku and Shokaku carriers are very impressive) so this saves
a lot of work and the result is also very good. But yes, shapeways has many models that are less famous but important to complete collections
