Overlay database

Hello,

I've downloaded the scenario overlays from the Matrix site but can't find any for the existing scenarios. Does such a database exist or is everybody just creating overlays independently with no central source?

Thanks.

Haven't seen anything like that.

No, neither have I.

It seems a bit daft that the community isn't sharing a resource like this; we're all spending (wasting) time replicating work somebody out there has already done. Is there concern over data use (I thought Google were a bit funny about image use nowadays)?

Are you confusing overlays with imports?

The overlays are the pictures and imports are files of units typically constructed from them.

Hi Mike,

I assume you mean imports are the text file with the reference for the overlay image (example attached albeit as a text file).

No. Imports are text files of pre constructed units that players can build. The manual covers this in detail.

If you're looking for some imagery or a database of it you may find some at Baloogan's site. If you're looking to start a collection I'd gauge interest first.

And keep in mind that thanks to Baloogan's modified version of GMAP it is very simple to create an overlay for the exact need of your scenario. I am pretty certain it takes considerably less time to create your overlay yourself than having to visit some image repository where you would have to look up a suitable tile for your need first. I also have my doubts that any specific overlay completely satisfies the criteria of more than just one single scenario.

BingSatelliteMaps is the repository for all your scenario needs, GMAP retrieves your overlay. No need for a database.

I think this is getting to bottom of the issue, and rightly so of course.

I disagree, which is why I was looking for a repository in the first place! :)

Tigh, please watch this guide made by Baloogan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY9SGBLtyN8&feature=youtu.be&t=3m15s It takes him 3 minutes to generate an overlay and import it into the game. And this is while he slowly explained everything and also chose a not so easy to find location.

Cool stuff. Do custom overlay files created with GMap have to be distributed with the scenario file separately or are they embedded in the scenario file once the designer uses the custom overlay tool? aka ... "compiled" into the scenario file. Thanks.

Edit: they are distributed separately.
