Hi
I cannot get the PBEM option to work in the new wir version. I choose PBEM game, but after the combat resolution the russian players start menu appears as if it was a normal hot-seat game.

Anyone else?

Hi Magnus,

I guess I have the problem also, but only with the 1941 campaign. I haven't tried every other one, but the ones that I did worked fine with the secure PBEM. I will get this off to Arnaud. I just tried a fix by renaming the obwir scenario to a slot that worked correctly, and it still didn't work, so it must be something in the scenario file rather then in the game engine. I guess I will take a look also, but not sure what would cause this to happen. Thanks!

Had the same problem initially BUT

got it to work after Disable and Enable of the new wir.exe

BTW you will know if the above worked right away because as soon as you choose the PBEM option it should ask for a password...that way you will not waste your time plotting a move that will not go anywhere.

Start PBEM...go to Options...go to Modify Installes Programs

On the new screen select the WIR game and then use the Enable and Disable buttons as appropriate

I must be stupid, blind or both. I don't see any of these!!! PBEM?? Options???? Enable???? Where are these? Inside WiR? Is it a 3rd party PBEM Program. I looked for something like this in the folder and don't see any .exe program that this may be part of. I've only downloaded 3.3 and no previous version, perhaps this was part of an earlier version? PBEM seems to work with Typhoon scenario, but not with '41 Campaign

I got this off Dave's FAQ page. I tried it and it seems to work, as I now can PBEM '41 campaign. Note that you must Type obwir ('41 Campaign File names) for obfb:

Q:
I recently downloaded WIR 3.1 with no apparent bugs until... I tried send my 1942 Campaign (German) by PBEM. After combat, as soon as I clicked off the final tally reports, it switches to the Soviet player turn. I don't have this problem playing "41" or "43". Is anyone else having this problem?

A:
To fix it do this: Go into WiR folder that you want to use for the pbem game (i have a complete wir folder for each seperate game). Start the editwir.exe programe and you will get a black dos window with a bunch of command lists. Type in the following. (not the stuff in brackets '()') note that i use upper case but that is not important.

L (for load)
X (for all files)
obfb (the '42 scenerio)
enter ('42 scen now loaded)
S (store)
X (all files)
obfb ('42 scen)
enter ('42 scen now resaved)

Having done this exit the editwir programe using windows 'X' button. Q (for quit) doesn't seem to work.
Both players should do this.
This enables the '42 campaign for pbem.

But what are you gaining from 3.3? Won't you just load in all the old scenario data from old 3.2?? I don't know how this works for sure. Loveman, I would just re-unzip your 3.3 and follow those instructions above and it worked perfectly for me.

Loveman, I tried to do same as you. The icons and rules where WiR 3.3, but the deployment was 3.2.
It́ s better to do as Jim suggested:
Open WarInRussia file.
Double click in Editwir. Will appear a Dos screen.
Type “L”, “X” and “obwir”. RETURN
Type “S” and “obwir” again. RETURN
Exit clicking in the “x” in the high right.

Now yoú ll can begin a 41 PEBM game.
If this doesń t work, I can send to you my obwir file.

Thanks again, Jim!;)

Is this something one has to do every turn?
Just wondering , (before I start patronizing my opponent) ;-)

Hej Magnus,

Tack för erbjudandet. Jag kör gärna igång ett PBEM. Hinner dessvärre inte driva två samtidigt, men tar mig gärna an en match så fort jag gjort korv av den här killen. ;-)

jag hör av mig.
