Ideal raid size and "Plot a raid group"

Hey guys, I've been playing this game for roughly 6 hours or so, still figuring things out. This is a kind-of long post, apologies [;)]

First thing I want to address is the "Ideal" raid size. I know this varies on what target you're striking, so I will give a few examples. In the BoB scenario, I went to strike a high capacity industrial target. I first selected about 300 bombers, and then I decided how my escorts will be planned. I did 3 groups(approx. 30 each) at close escorts. Then about 5-7 groups with no delay at various high-altitudes(ranging from 3-5k above, due to service ceiling in 41). Seems like we're no match using this tactic... Is this too many, too few? What are your experiences?

Also. I have been looking at the AI plotting aspects. I am trying to figure out how "plot a raid group" is used. I've read both the manual and various post to no avail. It says it will plot against multiple targets in the area, yet if I select an area(any area; as I was just testing) it would only plot against the one target. And a low amount of planes at that. We'd get slaughtered if we did that. How does this work, what are your experiences?

I like to use a 1.5 to 1 escort to bomber ratio. That way you can set up another raid or two and spread out the defense.

Never used the AI to plot a raid. I prefer to make my own mistakes <g>

I agree with the plotting your own raids, I just found the feature and was looking at it. I like to explore the strategy games I play, just in case I find something really helpful!

And, I'll have to try that raid-size. Do some more experimenting with things. Thanks for the reply!
