Happy Independence Day!

I just heard back from a close friend in the U.S. Army. He's serving in the Middle East and not far from where some very deadly attacks just took place. He's safe and said "Happy Independence Day!"
it occurred to me that because of him and so many that came before him, from the USA as well as many other countries, we have the luxury of doing things like playing games and communicating across the continents about them.
If it weren't for them, I never would have had a chance to play a game that came from Australia with contributors from many countries.
So whether you are Americans or Australians or Norwegians or from any of the many countries that can read this and enjoy this game -
Happy Independence Day and be grateful for those who served your country bravely and stopped the tyranny that was behind the game we all enjoy so much!
We owe so much to those who stopped the Nazis, the Fascists and the Imperial Japanese. People who were military as well as civilians who opposed the freedoms that so many of our countries enjoyed.
The "heroes of Telemark" and others in Norway, the French resistance fighters, the civilian "spotters" on Pacific islands, the "Home Guard" of older British patriot, and civilians who worked hard in many ways to support their countries - as well as the ANZACs who fought in North Africa and elsewhere so far from home, the British pilots and air crews who handed Hitler his first defeat over the skies of Southern England, the German patriots who faced death for trying to stop the madness in their country, almost every country had citizens or soldiers who sacrificed for their freedom.
People like my dad, who lied about his age and joined the Army Air Corps at age 16. A year later he was a top turret gunner in a B-17. Not a very safe occupation for a kid.
But he and so many like him have served my country and so many other countries, many of which I'm glad to see enjoy this game. Let's remember them and celebrate them and our freedom and Independence!
Everybody have a wonderful Independence Day, wherever you are!
