Old Grudges Never Die - scenario does not make sense...

SPOILERS!

I have played the scenario from the both sides.

For the Turk side
1) The sub sinking problem (it's a known bug)
2) I assume my main mission is to secure the Turkish air space. However, apart for the cruises from Russia (which some of them I manage to kill) there are no violations. I do what makes sense - I keep my patrols up over Turkey and they get attacked by the Russian S-400 without any warning. Than I get a message from The President to harass Russians over Syria, but I get no assets to deal with the S-400. I can do two things - sneak attacks below the radar horizon or a ground strike against the S-400 (which is a bit against the spirit of the scenario).
3) I get a suggestion to aid the Turkomen, however no ground units are detected during the scenario, and I lack any proper intel gathering platforms for recon. Well, I don't think you are suppose to do a low pass recon with F-16 in potential range of MANPADS.

For the Russian side
The briefing makes sense. Hurt ISIS, do not start the 3rd WW. I do some ground strikes against the oil fields and bridge. Suddenly out of the blue the Coalition turns red to me (I believe one of the Rafales is observed to attack a friendly unit, I may have a log when I discover where CMANO saves it) and a hell breaks loose in form of my air patrols and S-400 shooting everything that moves in the air. Apart from the Turks who remain unfriendly.

Generally I am dissapointed. The events are not clear, there is no communication from high command (Which I would I expect on the Turkish side, being a commander in the middle of chain) explaining the situation. Don't take me wrong - it is a nice sandbox to take a peek at the platforms involved. But I do not take it as playable. I really expect more from a paid scenario than I get from a community-provided one.

You might want to consider to add the words SPOILER ALERT because I have yet to play the scenario.

Thank you.

The sub issue is fixed in the new release today, and the briefing is more clear. There are already a bunch of messages from Turkish high command, there are a couple more now. You will need to do some recce to find the ground units, they're there. You have some F-4s.

The touchy going hostile issue is known and with the Devs.

Sorry you feel that way but there's not much more a scenario designer can do.

Gunner, you might want to check. I reinstalled the SR3 patch and started the scenario. It seems the same to me because it is still unclear where to search for ground targets. I can't find the refinery and I don't know where the Aziz pass is located (Turkish geography not my thing). Still, it is a good, not great scenario.

Nevermind, I found the AZIZ crossing and the refinery.

Gunner98,

I just picked up all the Live scenarios and am starting with "Old Grudges". Like the OP, I've started this scenario several times as the Russians and each time the coalition turns hostile and begins shooting down aircraft with no provocation or messages/warnings. Is this a known bug or am I missing some instructions that would keep them neutral?

This is a known issue but I wouldn't call it a bug. There is sensitivity from one size firing in the general direction of another, and if the conditions are right (or more appropriately wrong) sides can and will go hostile towards each other. I don't think its a bug because if you're in an F-15 and an Su-35 over Syria shoots a AA-12 in you're general direction - you would call that a 'hostile act'.

Now I have not tested this scenario in a while so perhaps some of the new updates have tweaked something that makes thing too twitchy.

When the Coalition goes hostile towards you - have you done something like fire a missile or drop a bomb close to one of their units or was it spontaneous?

Hi Gunner

Thanks for the quick reply. I never really paid much attention to who was in the neighborhood when bombing the terrorists. Figured the U.S.and coalition were going after the same and I wasn't shooting at them... What you say makes sense and I will pay closer attention on my next run through and try to shoot only when no one is looking [:D]

That will help[;)].

Also you may note that the targets are .... not all everyone's targets! And if an American or a Coalition or a Turk has Positive ID on you bombing an ally that will set things off as well.

I cannot recall the detail but the briefing has some clues:

The Turks hate the Kurds.
The Russians are helping the Kurds.
The Russians and Syrians hate the Turkoman Bdes, who are friends with the Turks and the Coalition but not so much with the Americans (I think)
Everyone hates ISIS but there aren't really that many of them.

You get the picture... Syria is a confusing battlespace. [:D]

Enjoy
