Exception Info: System.OutOfMemoryException

This thread may be relevant, although not necessarily too helpful.

Google for "Large Address Aware.exe", download it from a reputable place (maybe even from Microsoft itself). Run it and switch your Distant Worlds .EXE and .DLL files (I don't remember exactly which files need to be flagged, so just flag them all) to 36-bit mode. That's how I keep mine from crashing.

Just type in *.dll and hit Enter.

Make sure you make copies of the files before you change them though, just in case something wonky happens.

I still can't add either by drag or drop or by add .dll files.

I found a way, though I find it weird how the game only crashes when I am saving the game. Though I just realised that the pirates either by the devs or this guy who made the research mod with enhanced universe / improved ai. makes pirates SPAAAM thousands of ships when playing on 1# extreme difficulty, 2# biggest galaxy with 40-50 empires and 3# maxed out on numbers and hardnes of pirates. [8D].

I love this game and I know im properly trying the impossible. PLEASE LET DW2 be 64-bit so at LEAST the memory won't be my issues the next time :D

Idk if you've read this thread:

tm.asp?m=4069602

It may help. Also most of us don't have your issue so I'm thinking it's something in your setup (idk, maybe).

Take a look at Twigster's AAR for a game running with a lot of units.

Im starting a new game, since this other 1400 - 15x15 size - too many pirates is ruining every third autosave.

spec has little to do with it tbh, resources free and in use mean more, the less you pre load in startup with the game can make all the difference, as anything that isn't needed, doesn't need to be run at the same time as the game, and could make the difference between the game running and the game crashing, a lessor spec pc runs it's fine, so for me alter what you have each time you run the game, so less conflict and more resources

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

add the exe of the game to your Anti Virus and firewall program, to make sure check the logs of these to see if it was one if any of them was to blame.

That usually means a 3rd party program, like an Internet security programs, is or could be interfering with the game or update installation.

run the game from a admin account and use full admin permissions.

please make sure all game pre requisite are installed with the game, even if you think or fully know there are already installed, it will only over write, and it may be that you have a older or newer version of these where as the game in question may need a certain version.

please make sure you are running the latest game version and have up to date drivers installed on your pc,

If you have the original version. So you'll need to update it from the Internet.
Please note that you'll only need the last update, as the updates are comprehensive. (not needed with steam)
