I'll run a couple of these, at least three I guess, as time allows. Here are the results from Test 1.

Test of Spain joining the Axis via Diplomacy alone.
Hotseat Test, no actions taken other than adding maximum Diplomacy to Spain. This includes Italy once they are in.
Answered 'No' to all DE's.
Test 1, Dates and Level of Axis leaning:
At Start [20%], 3-40 [32%], 4-40 [42%], 5-40 [52%], [Italy joined 9-40], 10-40 [66%], 11-40 [81%], 12-40 [91%], 2-41 Spain is at 99% and is 'preparing for war', Spain joined the Axis 3-41.

Of interest: USSR attacked Germany in 7-40. The Warsaw Proximity Warning displayed on several turns even though there were units within 10 hexes of Warsaw [andt I never attacked nor conquered Poland].

Yes, if you don't conquer Poland then the USSR will steadily mobilize.

Thanks, I'm glad to see it took a while to get Spain on board, even with a full investment in diplomacy. Particularly as it was a Hotseat game then the lack of an Allied opponent to counter your diplomacy suggests that in a real game getting Spain to join would have taken even longer.
