Stock scenario 1 -

57 mm Ho-401 cannon and
75 mm Type 98 cannon

show an availability date of 0/0. All other aircraft weapons show available 12/41. Does this mean these weapons are always available or never available? Has anyone used any of the aircraft that mount these weapons and can confirm they work?

Might be a better question for the mod forum but thought I'd start here first.

doesn't really matter, the accuracy of both is such that they won't be very useful except in a ground attack role. The problem with that is there is no IJ aircraft with enough durability to survive except maybe Helen. So you could create one ... emulate the Mitchell AB ... but the IJ never did it and even then you'd be far better off using Ho-5 20mm cannons for the role. The ROF (which is a key component of accuracy) is far higher and thus would inflict far more damage.

The Ho-401 was apparently used on the Ki-102 Otsu ground attack aircraft. It doesn't sound like it was used much in real life, and I am not sure if that is in the game or not.

Agreed anything 37mm and up doesn't have the accuracy to be used air-to-air. Tank busting is out due to Allied AAA.

What I was having delusional visions about was strafing attacks on Fletchers. Help to keep roving Fletcher only TF at bay late game. Maybe some belt hits would slow them down enough to make easier targets for dive bombers.

I'm nearing 1943 and thus setting up my late war R&D. I don't want to use slots for these aircraft if the weapons don't work in game.

Oh, the dreams about strafing ships. Read here and weep.

PS. What you really need against Allied ships is a George, namely N1K2-Ja Shiden KAI Model 21A: Fighter-bomber version. Four 250 kg bombs.. Sadly, this version is not present in the stock/DaBabes scenarios. I know RHS has them, but never had the chance to sandbox them there.

Available date of 0 means that is always available.

Edit: this issue with this guns is that they are slow rate of fire.

I am now trying out a new japanese configuration, open cockpit bi planes, with a samurai archer in the back with explosive arrows like Rambo.

So far we learned that it is important the Samurai does not smoke, and somehow after 2 weeks of training they are all out of action with the flu.
