Submarine image in Nato units

The submarine profile in the Nato unit images is too easy to confuse with an aircraft carrier.

This is very easy to fix. Here's one solution from the non-zoomed in counters:

The hull of the submarine is only one pixel high (the CV is two). The outline of the submarine is simplified, and both the bow and the stern are shorter so that you can tell at a glance that it's a much smaller vessel.

I'd love to see something more dynamic or more attractive for all of the counters period. I love the game, the size, the scope, etc. but the counters leave me cold. How easy will they be to mod?

Pretty easy if you don't mind messing around with PNG files and alpha channels.

But there are bigger fish to fry with this game than making things look a little better.

For the record, the counters used in this iteration are several quantum improvements over the ones that were used in the earlier incarnations of the game. Before I always liked the 3-D figures better than the unit counters only because the unit counters were too ugly to look at. There's always room for improvement, but I much prefer the unit counters in the current game to the current 3-D counters. I'm reserving judgement on whether I prefer the old or the new 3-D figures because I haven't really done more than glance at the new ones since by and large the counters are just fine.

If the game ever gets to the point where I feel I can make a mod for it the first thing I'd do is remove the G from all the garrison units (which is what I did in my mods of SC 1 and SC 2), and come up with a more dramatic set of symbols for the air units.

But it's all moot if the Eastern Front doesn't get fixed.
