Here is a map scanner I made for SC3.
It allows you to take a PNG image and convert it to a text file that SC3 can import to a map.
It is totally free and I will keep updating it for newer versions if I need to.
Instructions on how to use the program are under the \SC3MapScanner_Data\Resources\ folder of this program.
Any bugs or questions drop a reply here in this thread.
There is the link. This works with v1.00.10b

I love neat stuff like this, but what is the practical effect, what does it do, what effect is there on the map ?

Hi Everyone,
This is a very handy tool for any modders that would like to create a new map without having to draw every hex by hand. You can take sections of the world map PNG that the tool includes and crop out specific areas and the tool will generate a text file that the SC3 Editor can interpret, via File->Import Map Indexes. Some touch ups will be required but after that you'll have the bottom layer of any SC3 game map and just need to add the rivers, terrain, city and unit positions.
It works quite well and thanks again Al for making this available
Hubert

Sure thing. The instructions also show how to scale the map right. It's tough to do until you do it.
