WW2 Europe by Schwerpunkt
I bought this yesterday and already understand the UI and game mechanics.
Does a much better job of war then WitE to me - but I am a newbie.
I tried to like this game much to complex to do simple stuff though (fighting the interface and getting it to do what i want).
The UI in WWIIE is different but easy to learn and get to moving stuff.
Air is easier to handle without having to worry about settings being right before anything can happen.
Have the complete package of WitE with both DLC's on steam not even going to waste my time trying to wrestle with it anymore

WWIIE has it's own shortcomings as well, as you will find.

WWIIE has it's own shortcomings as well, as you will find.
I tried the WitE and WitP AE own both and neither comes close to this.
WWIIE is still being updated has West, East, and Africa fronts and is only $50.
WitE is waiting on an $80 update to V2 before the first version is even bug free so tell me about the
shortcomings.
I'm just sayin... tried and bought into it but still can't justify the reason for waiting on a new $80
update plus another +$50 for DLC's for one front.
But I have more then one game from Matrix doesn't make it right tho....

Just to say that WITE is my best wargame buy ever. Paying 65€ considering the number of hours I played it, I've paid less than 0.02€ per hour...
It's now a better ratio than Squad Leader or TOAW

My first question for you would be try finding a 41-45 East Front scenario. Is does not exist. So any real comparison is not possible. If you are in to small scenario's where production, replacements and logistics are not going to play any part then WWIIiE might be better for you. Otherwise, at this stage stick with WITE if big East Front games are your interest.

I never tried Schwerpunkt games, but I am really intrigued into getting Middle East wars, how is it compared to GG games?

Mine is similar to this as WITE is only second to WITP-AE nothing is even close.

Michael T, Im curious to hear how you would compare WITE with RGW or their WW2ie game. Im considering getting AGW since my laptops max res of 1366x768 is below the minimums for WW2ie. From reading and watching the only youtube video I could find Schwerpunkt's games seem to be very spartan and more boardgame-like. In fact it makes me think I already have better games in WITE and WITW.

In many respects WWIIiE has gone backwards in relation to AGW. Spartan is a good word for it. And Spartan even compared to modern board games.
Just a couple of WWIIiE spartans:
Very simple supply rules.
Every town/city on the map is the same type/size (they only vary in the number of hexes) So some tiny little village has the same effect on combat as a Stalingrad hex.
HQ's although included in the game have virtually no impact at all.
So no C&C
No factories to move or protect.
No password protection for PBEM
No upgrades of units as the war goes on.
I could go on.... and on.

From what I can see the design appears to be one of the strong points of the game. In my opinion it is prettier than WITW and what likely will become WITE2

Maybe i got wrong and took picture from an older version of the game ?
Because it is really looking terrible :
The tons of small test/numbers on icon especially is really hard to read.
The units type is so small it is barely readable.

For me it looks pretty, but from what Michael T described, I am mostly going to look away.

In essence it is even more boardgamey (using exclusively boardgame mechanics - ones that you could use to play without computer) than WitE. But I think that was the design goal.
For me map and counters are not that bad, but the rest of the GUI looks crude.

Totally agree with you. I think map and counters look fine but it's not a game for me.

His design essence/goal is to give his games the old 'Avalon Hill' feel. He does that. But today's wargamers want more than a 1980's game. His design does appeal to some no doubt. But even I, a player who still plays and loves modern boardgames finds the game clunky and lacking in rudimentary features I expect from contemporary designs, be they PC or cardboard.
I think you can download a manual if peeps want to dig deeper.
