I think it highlights the presence of aircraft.

Yeah if the unit contains an open aircraft storage facility you can spot aircraft in them.

If you open up to unit view you can see exactly what facility is storing the aircraft.

Something that just occurred to me...

You can't necessarily tell if a hanger or hardened aircraft shelter is occupied, just opened parking spaces. Is that reflected in the information presented? I haven't payed attention (I usually just mass TLAM everything that looks like it might contain an airplane on day 1 :-) ).

Yeah should just happen with open aircraft storage objects. You can, however, spot that an aircraft is in a hangar if you have an observer looking when it goes in

Yes, we did that on purpose. We wanted to show why persistent ISR is such a hot subject.
