I just upgraded to a new Dell XPS 8910 computer connected to a 4KHD monitor (3840 x 2160) with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (2GB) graphics card. I now find that I cannot play Strategic Command WWII unless I reduce the resolution to 1920 x 1200. At 3840 x 2160 when loading the game, or shortly thereafter, I get error messages like

Error: FAILED(draw_map_to_buffer_dc): No more memory

or

draw_war_map_on_war_map_surface(1): SDL FAILED(2): Failed to blit surface.

It is disappointing that a game released in 2016 cannot support what is now a commonly available monitor resolution. I hope this can be fixed.

Do you get the same error at 2560x1440 or 2560x1600?

Windows display settings doesn't give me either of those choices. Besides 3840 x 2160 I get 2048 x 1536 (not a good aspect ratio), 1920 x 1440 (same), 1920 x 1200, 1920 x 1080, and lower resolutions.

I found a solution that works pretty well for me--I installed the game in a virtual machine (Oracle Virtual Box) running Windows 7. This way I can run the game in a window on my PC at a reduced resolution without reducing the resolution of my actual screen. I still think the games should be fixed for 3840 x 2160. The other game I play in a the virtual machine is a very old game--a new game shouldn't need this.

You should be able to play the game at 1920x1200 without having to change your desktop screen resolution.

Open the Strategic Command WWII - War In Europe folder at your:
...\Documents\My Games

Find a file named SC3.ini and open it (you can use Windows Notepad).

Find the following lines:

#WINDOW_WIDTH= (your screen resolution)
#WINDOW_HEIGHT= (your screen resolution)

and change them to:

#WINDOW_WIDTH= 1920
#WINDOW_HEIGHT= 1200

Save the file and exit

I play at 2560x1600 on Win 10. Video card is GTX 970. I get the same errors. Sometimes immediately upon loading a saved game file. Sometimes after 5 minutes. Sometimes after 30 minutes.
