Greetings,

My OP report notified me that several CVL squadrons just resized from 18 to 9. Reviewing the Cowpens I now have two squadrons of 12 and 9 AC. The Aircraft Capacity/Used is 33/27. Why is it listing 27 used? I have 21 active AC. There are also 9 in reserve. Are the reserves still abort Cowpens? If so, then I should have 30 used. Can someone explain this difference?

The first 3 of each air unit that are in reserve do not take up any aircraft capacity.
All of the others in each air unit do take up aircraft capacity. So you have 21 active,
3 in inactive reserve, and 6 that are considered as being in an active reserve role.
Total capacity used is 27.

This is the reason the first three reserve aircraft don't take up aircraft capacity.

Only when the ceiling spaces are full do additional airframes take up hanger space.

Many of Japan's larger CVs had deep hangers where reserve aircraft were stored in parts. Same practice as American CVs, but a different form of storage.

It should be pointed out that, like many things, resizing is optional but the default is on. Don't be surprised by an ops report saying something happened like that that you didn't order (and had the option). Turn all that auto default stuff off at the beginning of the game. I'm not saying that in this case it was a bad idea, but it wasn't your idea. I personally like a 2:1 ratio of fighters to bombers on a CVE but I direct that myself. It's just another of those things like having your ships go into refit when you're trying to get them back to sea, or for the IJA having garrison troops eating up devices and upgrading to new ones when they have absolutely no good reason to.

I like large squadrons on my Light and escort carriers. So I generally pull off one unit and then resize the other to maximum size allowed. Then I work the carriers in groups with the needed planes mixed in by carrier. Just a personal preference.

He mentioned the markings of Lexington aircraft in the photo. Planes were sometimes shuffled between squadrons as needed, so this could explain why an SBD from Scouting 2 could be found on a Yorktown class carrier in early '42.

And thats one of the reasons I always return here from time to time, even if I went on a sabattical game wise. Awesome, I wonder how small a percentage of people on this planet would notice.
