I've been playing Distant worlds for years.. and all the sudden now I can't start the game after reinstalling and my crashlog has something to do with Directsound?

but I've reinstalled DirectX 20 times and XNA framework etc..

I'm using windows 8.1 64bit.. should be no problems.. I've played it before.. does the crash log say anything useful?

thanks

It seems to be a DirectX issue. Make sure you run all the provided installers, DirectX one in particular.

this one maybe more useful to see what's going off and what;s installed and what isn't...

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

I put an old Macrium Image on of my hard drive and now Distant Worlds works..

I'm sure it was something stupid like my windows wasn't installing net framework 3.5 or something like that..

also I'm sure drivers were all screwed up..

anyway after I put my old image back of my hard drive with the correct drivers and all..it works now..

go figure..

My windows install must have been really really messed up..
