Tactical Bombers

I actually regret bringing this up again, tacticle bombers are way way too overpowered, I have seen 2 strikes take out a Russian armored unit and unrealalistic destroy many other units, it really needs to be changed.
I say this reluctantly because it is the only way I have even a small chance to defeat the Russians, but fair is fair and reality should come first in this game if possible.

Yes, I have come to realise too that those tactical bombers are very, very strong once you got them upgraded.
In the first stages of the war with the USSR, I first attack with my medium bombers, to counterattack all the fighters and then those tactical bombers are king of the battlefield...
But...
- the usefulness of the air force is very limited, due to the weather. I didn't counted the turns, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they can only fly out half of the time.
- it takes a lot of MPP to have a proper airforce: you need to...
---- research Advance Aircraft => 700MP
---- research Longe Range Aircraft (or buy extra fighters) => 425 MPP
---- upgrade your fighters => 500 MPP
---- constantly repair your fighters => easily 100 MPP after good-weather turns
---- research Ground Attack Weapons => 425 MPP
---- upgrade and constantly repair your bombers => easily 50 MPP after good-weather turns
---- have an extra HQ => 400 MPP
So... that's about 2,000 MPP to get the air-force up and running and a maintenance cost of 150MPP in about half the turns. That's a high cost for an add-on that can only fight half the turns.
I am not convinced that that money isn't better spend on more armies & HQs.
Now, I admit that the research will also benefit the war in the West: upgraded Maritime Bombers that are protected by upgraded fighters will tear through UK transports. And they can spot the transports from very far (a maximum upgraded Maritime Bomber can spot transports from as far as Bristol!)
In the end, it seems balanced to me: yes, an air-force is powerful. But it costs a lot of MPP to build & maintain.

Execellent point Yogol from an expense point of view, I still do not feel a armored unit should be destroyed by air no matter how many times it gets hit, weaken it, damage it's experience or a few other things but not destroyed, IMO

Bo,
I agree and take it a step further. Air attacks and naval attacks against a land unit should only be able reduce the strength to 1 point minimum. Any attacks after can continue to have an impact on morale and entrenchments, but the unit should still exist and need to be destroyed by another land unit.
With one air attack alone, I've seen and been able to do so myself, completely wipe out a 5 strength garrison unit in a city hex in one turn. I don't know how the planes hit the unit in the city as they hide in bunkers, building, cellars, etc and are able to destroy the unit completely to the last man. It just does not make sense.
I'm guessing it's simply a limitation of the combat system. Hopefully a future patch can either fix this issue or add an option to prevent destruction beyond 1 point by air or naval attack against land units.
Of course I do not think this applies for naval vs naval, air vs air or air vs naval attacks.

That makes perfect sense Major, but maybe the programmers are saying it is a constant attack all week or maybe two weeks depending on the turn, and the destruction was over a longer period of time, not a programmer so what do I know [:(]

It's modifiable in the Editor, you can reduce the Combat Effect while Morale and Readiness are separate.

That is for Hubert to do not me, if I attempted to use the editor with my knowledge of the editor, a bad die roll and England would tip over and sink from the weight of all the troops, now wouldn't that be fun, then I would have Warspite upset with me and I do not wan't that now do I [:(]
