Hello to all;
If your Ground Strike target is a fighter air corp, shall it be allowed to actively defend itself in an air fight or not?

Yes, as far as it is organized and supplied. Although they are not called corp, don't recall the name of the unit now. [:)]

Division?
250 airplanes is more than a "Geschwader" or Air Group-Wing-Sentai, it is grossly 2 times bigger

I don't really know, maybe you were correct. Of course they are big enough, I just thought there was a different name for them.
I can't access to my manual of MWIF now, but from my WIF rules:
An aircraft unit represents 250 aircraft in 1939 gradually increasing to 500 aircraft by 1945. Each counter consists of a variety of types, but with the predominant aircraft being that depicted on the counter.
They are really big units.I was not referring to their size but to a specific designation for air units. I looked it up in the wiki and the bigger they give is air wing, except some denominations in the red army, An air wing can consist of up to 10 squadrons of about 12 to 24 planes each. A bit shot but...

I think it should simulate the Geschwader-Division....or a big Wing-air Group
I think that the USAAF as well utilized the "Air Division" in its hierarchy...just behind the Air Force (comparable to a land Army - also for number of personnel!)

Yes it can intercept the ground strike (providing it is organized and in supply - as mentioned by Joseignacio) but then it will be disorganized when it lands (which can be anywhere in range).
So the question is how many ground strike factors is it worth scrambling your fighters for? And if you don't then you might get disorganized anyway.

Yes, those who are in the defense have BIG problems with ground strikes. Using a fighter to counter it means it will have to be landed 2, 3 or 4 hexes away, where the enemy possibly will be able to push through, the clearest example being Ukraine in Barbarossa. Using a AA will stick it in the seme hex it is, this happened to me specially in France in 39/40.
Of course you can reactivate them with an HQ, but then your HQ will be exposed himself unless the line holds (which obviously could have saved your plane anyway).
Sometimes you have to weight and balance what you do. In a grund strike with 2 corps 1 div and a fighter by a Stuka (usually escorted) with 5 or 6 factors in fair weather and in the clear, you almost
need to scramble, because anyway you have like a 50 or 60% possibilities of having the plane disorganized anyway , but also the same for each of the land units.
However, being with only one more corps the balance may be other.
And if the plane is alone and in range of enemy land units you need to. Because if they overrun it while organized, you'll need to rebase it and becomes disorganized, but if it gets hit and then is overrun by a land unit, it is dead (pilots included).

Base your FTRs away from your ground units and this generally won't happen unless the other side has massive air superiority. If you are defending a small front, you might have no choice but the FTR can defend the hex for at least an impulse. Normally, offensive air missions are so precious that they will only be used against ground units.
