Hi everyone.

After a bout of cold feet, I started another PBEM. I was playing with Andy Mac's Scenario 100, but after punching through a year in about two weeks, grew weary of playing a robot.

My game with KenchiSulla has been on hold and the other with AW1Steve and Onime collapsed, and I needed another one. It doesn't help that I'm unhappily unemployed at the moment, so I need something for the nerves.

I'll just refer to my opponent as "Dave", since that's easier than his forum handle.

I'll be more circumspect this time around, after the early war whipping KS gave me. I do have some ideas to try out, which I practiced against the AI, which could give me a leg up in the war. More on that later...

As always, feel free to let me know what you think.

Pearl got smacked... and smacked good. I even lost five tons of capacity in my shipyards. This is probably the worst result I've ever seen and all the BBs will be out for a number of months. Two of the least wrecked ones are in the yard here, and I'll try to get the others set up enough to move to the States. All airplanes. The minisubs looked to have all been lost on this.

Apart from landings at Mersing and Kota Bharu, troops are also already ashore at Naga, in the PI. He's not wasting any time.

I'm going to take advantage of I Australian Corp's position in the org chart and try to get three or so divisions plus coastal artillery shipped to Rabaul post-haste. If I can cut him off there, I can save myself the big headache of a Solomons campaign later on. I'll try to also get Lae beefed up quickly too. I'm not sure how up on the list Rabaul is for him, but if it's not at the top, I'll make him pay.

Carrier based Kates put a torp into Marblehead.

I'm thinking of disbanding a large surface force, including Repulse and Prince of Wales at Madjene to ambush any move towards Balikpapan. It'll be a one-shot deal, but that can throw a wrench into the Japanese timetable. Hopefully that base doesn't get reconned.

Starting from the east, I stopped planning at Australia. I'll deal with that tomorrow.

Wow, it looks like you and I compete for worst butt kicking at PH.

That Rabaul operation might be too far forward too soon. If Dave (is that HAL's alter-ego? [:D]) decides to 1) concentrate to kill those forces, or 2) strand them while using their absence elsewhere to whump 'elsewhere' that could leave a mark.

Alert about disbanding combat ships in port: *only* PT (MTB, et al) will automatically form into a TF and engage in combat. Other types disbanded in port will be targets until you get to give orders to form them into a TF.

Along similar lines, I'm going to back as many troops and supplies as I can to Rangoon. All the TFs bound for Singapore are being re-routed there. I usually use Diamond Harbor as the staging point for any troops in India bound for there.

If he's slow to move that way, I can stall everything that ways.

KB pounded Indianapolis' group on the way out, sinking her. Looks like I won't have to deal with any further Pearl Harbor raids.

My two at-sea carriers are moving to a point south of Rabaul. If he tries to make a move there on the cheap, I can smack him. Sara is enroute to Pearl from stateside. I'm getting my shipping organized there and will run everything out of San Francisco per usual Ed doctrine. Seattle will supply the northern reaches. Lots of airplane squadrons are enroute from the eastern US, so I can get them shipped from San Fran.

I'm debating whether to actually fly the planes out of the Philippines this time. They get withdrawn in a few months anyway, and I'm favoring just disbanding them anyway when their time's up. I'd rather save the PPs to free up more Australians. Another regiment got flipped today and is loading up for Rabaul. That's three plus some coast artillery so far. I'm getting all the far flung units in Oz congregated right now. I'll be needing those base forces. Once my shipping's gathered, fuel and forces will flow from the US.

My opponent is really moving at this point. Today, there's landings at Babo, Balabac, Boela, Brunei, Jolo, Miri, Ternate and Kavieng. Kavieng is sooner that expected which is disturbing. I've set both USN CV groups to full speed which should get them to Rabaul in 2 days. I need to buy some time to get my forces there. If I can't reinforce Rabaul, I'll divert everyone to Lae. His coverage of these groups should be minimal, so my carriers should be able to deal with any move here. I just don't like putting the extra wear and tear on my ships.

Be careful at Rabaul...that would be an area I would try for a CV engagement early on as Japanese. Even a 2 versus 2 fleet CV fight you would lose.

There or Midway/Wake.

Not sure about the timing, plus IJNAF can fly torpedo betties and nells out of Roi Namur area. Also, the IJN can reroute a lot of subs into that area if it is part of a deliberate ploy to get your carriers.

This early on the Iboats are the biggest threat your Carriers face. Do not under estimate them. Watch the moon!

KB's well to the north yet and Ryujo is near Balikpapan. Another CVE is within the DEI right now also.

Forgot to mention: Hiei and Kirishima bombarded Johnston last turn. I was worried about an invasion there, but none yet so far.

Lots of his I-boats are in the DEI chasing tankers.

Geez, he's moving fast.

Landings are at Guam and now Rabaul. That plan's up in smoke now. I'm diverting everyone to Lae and will also beef up Port Moresby. Carriers are back to regular speed. I'll still swing them by Rabaul/Kavieng to nail any transports still unloading.

In China, I have troops mostly moving northwards to form giant stacks. He took his first shot at Hong Kong, which was beaten off.

An AS and AR are enroute to Midway to get my subs a more forward base. Eventually I'd like to run these out of someplace like Wotje.

Good luck with job hunt. RE: defaulting a pile of rugby thugs to LAE....I wouldn't touch that spot with 6 CVs. It is always under recon, it is nearly impossible to resupply given the geography, and finally without US base forces or const Engs it is hard to expand quick enough to be helpful. I fear it becomes a huge POW camp!
