Question on Air Intercept Mission Logic

I have trouble understanding mission logic.

I am playing the Beware of the Badger mission and have issued Air Intercept mission against bogies coming from nothern Norway. I have sortied all avaliable 104's in pairs. While two pairs went against the incoming threat a pair decided to go towards Iceland.

While I don't believe the pilots want to go a-wall to Iceland - I'd like to understand what mission logic coused them to go that way. TYhe only target is the yellow Bogie east of Iceland, but it is NOT on the mission target list...

Below are the screenshots of the situation and the mission set-up.

Can you post a save game?

Are you sure the 104's aren't running out of fuel?? They might automatically RTB in that case...

They'll land, refuel, take off and resume the mission.

They'll land, refuel, take off and resume the mission.

They fly AWAY from BODO and their target. Save attached.

I can't say whether this works because I usually don't do air intercept missions, but try setting the maximum strike radius to something less than the distance to Iceland. 300 nm ought to work.

Haven't checked the save but I suspect that they are heading out to investigate the unidentified bogie. Couple things you can do.

1. as Eggstor mentions, set a range limit to the intercept.
2. mark the unidentified bogie as neutral 'N' if it really is great, if it isn't, then it will turn hostile if you ID it
3. Disengage the pair by hitting 'Ctl+E' and then give it a course towards the baddies

Thanks for that tip, I have investigated that, however the bogie is no 22 and I have given the target list and checked the "pre planned targets only" checkbox... Bogie #22 is NOT on the list

Did you create the mission, launch the aircraft and then assign the targets?

That sometimes causes weird behaviour.

Not saying it's WAD but could indicate a workaround.

Does it mean I am supposed to create the mission and assign targets before the planes take off? Does it also mean I am not supposed to change (i.e. expand) the target list while mission is on the way? That limits stronly the usability of the mission mechanism...
