I am just wondering if it is intentional that subs running in silent mode are surprised by carriers and battleships?

its a game mechanic... oddities due to the conceiptthat subs are small group of subs and a BB or CV is a group consisting of escorts

Doesn't seem right to me, especially. for BBs

They will only be surprised by Carriers or BBs if there would be an impediment beyond them, i.e. DDs, nowhere else to move, or that is the furthest reach of their movement.

Turn Fog of War off temporarily when this happens to double check.
