Hi All,

I’ve tried to play Tee Up (Stand Alone) 10 times, as far as I can tell my American subs are dragging tin cans behind them and to top it off I’ve got ear muffs over my hydrophones because I can’t get get solutions on anything but a torpedo right before it sends me to the bottom.

Deep, shallow, above layer, below Layer, it doesn’t make a difference.
So I’m hoping maybe somebody else have had success and is willing to give me a few tips.
My torps can’t catch the SBN or the ASW forces arrayed against me, I even cheated and added Mk48's (the best of that era? on board and I finally got a hit before the helicopters sent me the bottom.............

Was 1971 that bad?

I haven´t played played this scen in a while, but from memory after taking a look at it again this is what I did.

I patrolled my three subs just above the layer at creep speed back and forth while also closing on the engagement zone.
When you pick up a sub, slowly get behind it. Do NOT increase speed to much as this generation of subs will cavitate easily.
If you need to catch up dive deep and increase speed, but again not too much.

At regular intervals, reduce speed and depth to reacquire the target.

Close to something like 1nm dead astern from the target and just stay there.

Soviet subs from this period didn´t have towed arrays, so they were completely deaf to the stern and the rest of their sonars where not a lot better.

When you enter the engagement zone, fire all tubes at the target and dive deep to evade the SAG.

Move out as fast as you can without cavitating if the SAG is close, otherwise just sneak away, and remember that the soviet ships don´t have VDS, so stay below the layer.

I failed twice, in my third game I lost my patience and sink two Soviet SSB outside the restriction zone, and the game ended without a victory.
If my memory is correct, your targets are two Golf II class SSB. You are supposed to sink them as soon as they get into the restriction zone. You are not authorized to strike other ships or submarine. So the MK37 should be able to sink the Golf SSB. On the other hand, if you shoot the November class SSN at close range, like 1nm to 1.5nm, he don't have time to escape.

1971 was not bad, the Torpedo AT-1 on Soviet's helo can only reach -200m, so at the deep depth you will see the AT-1 Torpedo circle above your head. That was fun. And I can totally understand why in 1960s and 70s the Navy from both sides need the nuclear depth charges.

However the AT-2U torpedo from the SS-N-14 is another story.
