I have found much discussion regarding U-2VS groups (I have built a block of six to use on a quiet sector as night bombers). But what about U2 recon and U2 transports? There are many of the latter in the pool and they are being built. Soviets lack many recon and transport groups. Do players choose to create U2 recon and transport groups?

Yes on U-2 recon. No on transport. The U-2Rs get shot down easily but there enough produced so that they are there when you need them. Also you should have their base forward to compensate for their limited range. You should pretty much direct select the base when using them so they are actually selected for missions.

You could theoretically use the LTAP U2 transports as training regiments, and to supply pockets in tight spaces near the fronts, then later on upgrade them to Li-2 when they're available in numbers. I'm not sure if that's an effective way to use APs since it costs double (one to build, one to upgrade). I'm not sure if the AI upgrades the LTAP groups to TAP when set on "Upgrade" or "Automatic", that would be a very useful thing?


EDIT: Tested out the upgrade, seems like they don't do swaps from U-2 (LTAP) to Li-2 (TAP).
