Research and project categories

Hi,

After a break, I'm coming back to Distant Worlds and my custom mod.

I have an idea about research trees : I would like to create trees around type of science and not around applications. For example, I could make a tree centered on robotics, which would open robotic repairs, enhanced storage (more efficient robots used in freighters) and enhanced target tracking (better computer AI in ships). These techs are in several different categories (storage, computer, etc.)

Since empire policy uses ResearchDesignTechFocus and research categories, I was wondering if my idea would cripple AI empires as they wouldn't know what to research first.

Have you tried such research tree in the past ?

Do a research project order in the race files. AI's will follow the script as far as you take it.
